The Experience

What to Expect From Your First Consultation

What to Expect From Your First Consultation

A first consultation should feel like a medical appointment, not a sales meeting. Here is exactly what happens in clinic at West Bridgford and East Leake — and how to get the most from it.

Before you arrive

Come with clean skin if possible, a list of your current medications and any known allergies, and a note of any previous aesthetic treatment including dates and products.

It helps to think in terms of what bothers you rather than what treatment you want — 'I look tired in photographs' gives your clinician far more to work with than a product name.

The medical assessment

Your practitioner will take a full history: medical conditions, medication, pregnancy or breastfeeding, autoimmune conditions, allergies and previous reactions. Some of this determines whether treatment is safe at all.

This is also when consent and cooling-off are discussed. There should never be pressure to treat on the same day.

Facial assessment and planning

Your face is assessed at rest and in animation — smiling, frowning, speaking — because muscle behaviour dictates dosing and placement.

You will then be given a plan in stages, with realistic outcomes, what each stage costs, and an honest statement of what aesthetics cannot achieve for your concern.

Treatment on the day — or not

Where it is safe and appropriate, many treatments can be carried out at the same appointment. Where it is not, you will be asked to return.

You will leave with written aftercare and a review point, usually at two weeks for anti-wrinkle treatment.
